Every time I return to Taipei—even after living there—it never loses its magic. It still feels like a second home. I last visited in January, the ideal month for exploring thanks to the cool weather. I love how easy it is to get around. The public transport is smooth, reliable and takes you pretty much anywhere—whether it’s a trendy neighbourhood or a scenic escape just outside the city.
I spent a day exploring the Bitoujiao Trail, a short coastal walk with gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding mountains. I ended the day in Jiufen, sipping Taiwanese tea in a cosy teahouse nestled in the hills. Taiwan’s hiking culture is amazing—and even if you’re not an experienced hiker, there are tons of easy trails where you can soak up nature without breaking a sweat.
But the best part? The night markets. I could wander them for hours—snacking on everything from Chinese baked buns and beef noodle soup to stinky tofu—while soaking up the buzz. The lights, the smells, the energy—it’s addictive in all the right ways.
Coming back to Taipei always feels like catching up with an old friend: familiar, effortless and full of moments that make me smile.
