China – Past to Present By Train

China – Past to Present By Train

Nov 2024 - Carsten - Director of Operations & Product

In November 2024, I hopped on the train from Hong Kong to Huizhou for a little China escape. A  morning stroll around Huizhou West Lake uncovering picturesque landscapes, classical gardens  and historical sites was the perfect way to ease into the day. I then wandered through the city’s vintage market, where narrow alleys hid all kinds of treasures: old-school furniture, retro  instruments, quirky art and random relics with a story to tell.

Next stop: Guangzhou. Just a quick train ride away, this buzzing mega-city of 18 million hits you  with its size, energy and constant motion. I headed straight to the traditional medicine  market—an earthy, chaotic maze of dried herbs, roots and fungi stacked floor to ceiling. As the  sun set, I made my way up Canton Tower to catch sweeping views of the city just as the night  lights came on. The mix of old traditions and modern energy made this a smooth and  memorable China escape.
