Muang Sing is a small town in the mountainous north-west corner of Luang Nam Tha province. Bordering China and Myanmar, its confluence of cultures includes traditional Tai Lu, Tai Neua and Akha ethnic minorities. The area is also a trade centre for Tai Dam, Hmong, Mien and Lolo ethnic minorities, making the large morning market a colourful affair.
Beyond the town lie quiet villages and fertile rice fields. Hilly monsoon forest to the south and rising mountains to the north create a magical territory to explore.
