“Borneo – the very name conjures up images of an exotic, unexplored land where fabled tribes perform strange rituals in the midst of deep dark impenetrable forests. I have a hunger for adventure, and the idea of a hidden secret world far removed from the usual tourist trail really appeals to me.
Karole Wittmann (Director of Sales, Americas) — To be an intrepid explorer in the forests of Borneo!
I would book the 5-day “Rahai’i Pangun River Cruise” that ventures deep into parts of Kalimantan, one of Borneo’s least visited provinces, aboard a traditional wooden river boat known as a Rangkan. Apparently sightings of proboscis monkeys, pangolins, hornbills, red langurs and Brahmini kites are quite common along these waterways.
Throughout the cruise you get to experience tropical rainforest, exotic wildlife, historic towns, ancestral homes and funeral ceremonies. I really want to see orangutans before they disappear and this cruise offers early evening canoe trips through the black water lakes to try to spot the orangutans. There is also an optional visit to the BOS Orangutan Foundation’s Education Centre in Nyaru Menteng to meet baby orangutans and learn more about the BOS projects.”
