Day 3: Magelang (De-Stress & Indulgence)

Start the day with an optional yoga class followed by another healthy and delicious breakfast. Then retire to the retreat’s Turkish hammam and experience the steam room, a full body exfoliation, head massage, and a deep cleanse with the signature soap made from olive oil and eucalyptus. Afterwards, if feeling energetic, join an activity such as Aqua-fit or the Jungle Gym, or alternatively learn some traditional cultural arts such as Javanese dance, gamelan or batik.

Later in the day try out a traditional Taoist treatment called Chi Nei Tsang, originally developed by monks to promote the health and wellbeing of the internal organs. The ancient Taoists believed that the secret to good health was to make sure that the “Chi” flows in a balanced way throughout the body. Chi Nei Tsang is an essential treatment for detox and weight-loss as it releases tension and stress, and can also help to alleviate digestive problems.

Day 4: Magelang – Borobodur – Magelang

Wake at dawn and make your way to Borobudur to watch the mist rising over this stunning 9th century temple complex. Constructed in six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, the temple has been decorated with 1,460 stone relief panels and 504 life-size Buddha statues. From the top gallery witness views that have changed little over the centuries, embracing the Kedu Plain, looming Mount Sumbing, the twin volcanic mountains of Merbabu and Merapi, and the Menoreh Hills.

Continue to the former capital city, Yogyakarta. This royal capital contains a functioning palace or kraton, which like the Vatican, is a city within a city. The heart of the palace remains the home of the sultan and his immediate family. Visit the Sultan Palace; the nearby Taman Sari Water Castle, once a royal park and bathing pond; and the silver and batik home industries in Kota Gede. After lunch continue to the Prambanan Temple, a beautiful Hindu temple with a bas-relief depicting the famous Ramayana story. In the evening return to the temples for a farewell dinner accompanied by a performance of the Ramayana Ballet with the silhouette of the temples in the background.
