The Asan Market
More than just a market, Asan is a riot of sights, sounds and smells. This ancient market takes place in the narrow lanes and congested alleys of Old Kathmandu. The lively neighbourhood is packed full with temples, stupas and old Newari buildings. The shops lining the alleys are centuries old and have been passed down from generation to generation.
Market vendors lay their produce on the ground shouting out to the constant flow of people passing through. Here you can buy anything and everything! Himalayan rock salt, copper vessels, fresh vegetables, cooking spices, fiery chillies, wedding clothes, ritual items and so much more.
Walk through the crowds stopping to taste local snacks and join the locals to pray for good luck and health.
