Day 1: Countryside Jeep tour – Hidden temple – Overnight in Luxury Tent
Your driver and guide will collect you from your hotel after breakfast. Climb into the back of the jeep and set off deep into the Cambodian countryside. Pass by lush green rice paddies, water buffaloes and isolated villages giving you a glance into authentic Khmer life.
Stop for a while to explore Prei Monti, a small 9th century temple nestled among trees. As this is off the usual tourist trail you may well have the entire temple to yourselves.
From here carry on to the nearby Phsar Rolous Market where the locals come to buy produce to be used in their traditional cuisine. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the market as you watch the women select the freshest vegetables and barter for the best prices.
The next stop is at the remote archaeological site of Poeung Komnou where ancient Hindu carvings of Ganesh, the elephant god, can be seen in the rock face. Relax for a while to enjoy a picnic lunch in this tranquil and spiritual location before heading to the immense and mysterious Beng Mealea Temple.
Lost beneath the vegetation for hundreds of years, this hidden temple is still largely unrestored. Stones lie in huge heaps, and trees and hanging vines thrive amidst its crumbling towers and along its long dark chambers.
After exploring this temple consumed by the jungle drive to the secluded Banteay Ampeul temple, where your luxury tent awaits. With fans, plush mattresses, premium linens, a private bathroom and a verandah for soaking in the magical jungle canopy this is glamping at its most glamorous.
After a welcome cocktail enjoy a romantic dinner by the light of hundreds of candles and tea lights. Then retire to your tent to fall asleep to the sounds of the surrounding jungle
Day 2: Ride an ox cart to the nearby village for transfer back to town by car
Wake up and start the day with a hearty breakfast next to the ancient temple. Very few tourists ever visit this remote temple as it is so far off the beaten track. Enjoy the silence and solitude of the surrounding ruins before setting off to the nearby village in local style – on an ox and cart! From here transfer back to your hotel by car or minivan.
