Day 1 :

After breakfast set off by road to Pyin Oo Lwin. As you wind your way up into the mountains enjoy the far reaching views over the Ayeyarwady plains. Pass through a place called ’21 Miles’ where a myriad of food stalls and street vendors display their fresh fruit and vegetables. Continue climbing passing long lines of stalls selling brightly coloured flowers and orchids on either side of the road.

On arrival in Pyin Oo Lwin visit some of the main sights including an important Chinese temple, the one-hundred-year-old Candacraig Hotel, and the local market. In the afternoon stroll around the Botanical Gardens to see the many trees, flowers, birds, and gardens. Then return to your hotel in traditional style – in a horse drawn cart!

In the evening you will be picked up from your hotel by your private driver and whisked off to The View Resort and Restaurant located on the top of the mountain. Sip an aperitif followed by a delicious dinner while looking out over the waterfall and the setting sun.

Day 2 :

After breakfast transfer to the railway station and board your private train for a bumpy and exhilarating ride over the Gotheik Viaduct, a masterpiece of engineering that rises out of the middle of the mountains. This impressive steel trestle bridge spans a deep gorge a few hundred metres deep. To put the least stress on the structure, the train crawls slowly over the viaduct giving plenty of time to look down on the deep lush valley with its winding river.

During the rest of the journey enjoy the passing scenery of distant mountains and rural villages as you tuck into a packed lunch (or alternatively take a late lunch at one of the stations).
Depart the train at Naung Pein station and return to the hotel for lunch. After lunch check out from the hotel and proceed to Mandalay.

Along the way stop in the little known hometown of the Mayor U Bein and learn about a Muslim community that has lived there for the last two hundred years.
Explore the shady paths through the ancient capital of Ava on your way to the U Bein Bridge, a teak wood bridge that gently curves for 1,200 metres across the lake. As the light starts to fade walk along the shores of the lake and watch the locals head home after a day’s work. Arrive in Mandalay in the evening.
