Borobudur by VW
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in a VW Cabrio car for the drive to Borobudur Temple.
This colossal Buddhist monument was built by hand from thousands of volcanic and river stone blocks during the 8th and 9th centuries. Some 432 serene faced Buddha images stare out over the surrounding rice fields and distant mountains.
Nearby is the exquisite Mendut Temple, even older than Borobudur. Here, you can see three magnificent and well preserved carved stone statues set inside the pyramid shaped temple.
At Pawon Temple admire the relief panels and beautiful architecture of this small and solitary Javanese temple.
After visiting the temples, relax over lunch in a local restaurant. Then drive through the beautiful countryside with views of paddy fields and seasonal plantations. Pass through rural villages such as Wanurejo and Karanganyar catching glimpses of local life.
Take a walk through a rural village to gain an insight into how the ancient traditions are being preserved. Learn about the agricultural system of multi-cropping and experience the preparing of the soil for cultivation, planting and picking of seasonal fruits.
Pop into a local house and try your hand at playing the gamelan, a simple Javanese instrument, while sampling traditional snacks.
