Turban Tying, Kite Flying, & a Home-Cooked Meal
Tour Overview
In Rajasthan, the turban is one of the most important aspects of traditional Rajasthani attire. Turban tying has become a recognised art form, and the men in this region take pride in practising and perfecting this tradition. With the help of a noble and learned Jaipur resident, you will learn this wonderful art.
Next, discover another passion of the Rajasthani people – kite flying. Kites were originally invented in China using silk fabric on a bamboo frame. After its introduction into India, the kite further evolved into the ‘fighter kite’, known as the ‘patang’. Thousands are flown every year on festivals such as Makar Sankranti.
After some helpful instruction, fly your own kite against the unknown kite assassins practicing their hobby in the cool of the evening. Residents take great pride in knocking down each other’s kites and proving their skill in the sport of Indian fighter kites.
The evening ends at a beautiful aristocratic house where a delicious home-cooked meal of local specialties is served. Weather permitting, the meal will be enjoyed in the old courtyard of the house.
