Shittaung Pagoda Festival 2018 (5D/4N)
27 April 2018 – 1 May 2018
Day 1: Yangon - Mrauk U (27 April 2018)
Transfer to Yangon domestic airport for the flight to Sittwe. On arrival transfer to the jetty for a private boat trip along the Kaladan River to Mrauk U. Relax and enjoy lunch on board and the riverside scenery during the 5 to 7 hours journey upstream. On arrival in Mrauk U in the evening, transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Mrauk U (28 April 2018)
After breakfast in the hotel set off to explore Mrauk U, the ancient capital city of the Rakhine Kingdom in the 15th century. Stroll through the city market to see the way of life of the local people. Visit Koe Thaung Temple whose stone terraces, passageways and chambers are home to thousands of Buddha images. Also visit the museum-like Mahabandola Monastery, Sakyamanaung Pagoda and Ratanamanaung Pagoda. In Thet village observe the lifestyle and customs of the Rakhine ethnic groups such as the women with large holes in their ears due to the traditional earrings. After a rest in the hotel visit the archaeological museum, Lawkananaung Pagoda and Parabaw Buddha image. Drive to Herry Taung hill to watch the sunset and then transfer back to the hotel.

Day 3: Mrauk U (29 April 2018)
After breakfast in the hotel join the locals to celebrate the annual Shitthaung Pagoda Festival, a well-known event held on the full moon day of Kason. The festival is celebrated on the land and in the rivers and streams. There are traditional wrestling competitions, boat races and lots of fun and water splashing. Stroll through the market stalls at Pwe Zay to soak in the atmosphere. In the evening enjoy Zats, a colourful round dance with singing and performances, as well as Anyeints – open-air performances which last the entire night! We will also visit the fortress-like Htaukkhan-Thein Temple, Andaw Temple, Ratanabon Stupa, and Laungbanprauk Pagoda locally known as Plate Pagoda.

Day 4: Mrauk U (30 April 2018)
After breakfast in the hotel set off on the 20 kilometer drive to Lay Myo River. Board the boat and cruise upstream, stopping en route in some of the riverside villages including Kreik Chaung village, Pambaung village and Cho May Chin village, located within 15-20 minutes walking distance from one another. Here you have the unique opportunity to meet the Chin tribes. Some of the older women have intricate patterns tattooed on their faces, a vanishing tradition of the Chin tribes. Observe the centuries-old unchanged lifestyle of these ethnic minorities and learn about their local customs, traditions and beliefs. A picnic lunch box will be provided for your lunch. In the late afternoon, cruise back to the starting point and drive to Mrauk U.

Day 5: Mrauk U (1 May 2018)
Early morning, check out from the hotel and transfer to Sittwe by car. The driving hour may take 3 to 4 hr approximately. On arrival, transfer to Sittwe Airport for the flight back to Yangon.
