Portraits of Bagan
Spend the day meeting some of the inspiring people that live in Bagan. Meet U Myo Nyunt, a local expert on archaeology and the former Deputy Director of Bagan’s Department of Archaeology. He will reveal fascinating stories behind the sacred sites, as well as telling you about the conservation efforts and Bagan’s plight for recognition as a U NESCO World Heritage Site.
Next, meet with Ma Moeh Moeh Aung, a famous computer trainer. Growing up, she was not interested in the typical female professions such as lacquerware design or tailoring. Instead, she became fascinated with modern technology. With the help of her brother, she became a computer specialist and set up her own training centre to share her knowledge.
Following this, meet Ye Min Latt-nicknamed Ye Ye – at his beauty parlour. Originally wanting to become an engineer, his parents could not afford to pay for his education and that of his five siblings. After finishing high school, he ventured off on his own to Yangon where he was trained by a famous make-up artist. He then decided to bring his new-found skills back to Bagan and started his own business. He now employs nine people in his popular parlour.
Finally meet U Maung Mya, whose childhood dream was to enter into the traditional lacquerware business. As a young schoolchild, he sold paintings to tourists for pocket money. After many years of hard work, his dream became true as he is now the proud owner of the Mya Thit Sar Lacquerware workshop in Myinkabar village, Bagan. All meeting these unforgettable local entrepreneurs, return to your hotel.
