Pindaya Countryside Walk
Spend the morning trekking off the usual tourist trail to discover traditional Danu villages and unique limestone caves.
Start walking from your hotel in Pindaya along a main road for about 30 minutes to the starting point for the day’s walk. From here, begin walking for about one hour through mango, crab apple trees and other seasonal crops. At the Danu village of Tha Yet Kone, witness the villagers crafting traditional bamboo hats by hand.
Continue walking uphill through tea plantations, fruit trees and local farms. Photograph the beautiful views as you look over the town of Pindaya with its breathtaking lake. Stop for a while in the Danu village of Kyae Dwe Kone, located on a hill and surrounded by bamboo forest. Here you can see how the villagers make potato chips, a favourite snack of the region.
The walk becomes easier as you descend through tea and coffee plantations to Shwe Oo Min Cave. These famous limestone caves, set deep in the limestone ridge, overlook a picturesque lake and mark the end of your trek. If you wish, you can enter into the winding maze of caves and explore the various chambers that contain thousands of Buddha images made from teakwood, marble, lacquer and plaster.
