Mt.Popa Soft Trek
Hike through trees and flowering plants to the summit of Mount Popa for sweeping views over the surrounding countryside.
In the early morning set off by vehicle to Popa Garden Resort to meet your local trekking guide. Then together start the hike up Mount Popa. This extinct volcano is also known as Taung Ma-Gyi, or Mother Hill. It will take approximately 2.5 hours to reach the summit at 1518 metres.
The mountain is an oasis with over 200 streams and springs. Many species of birds and butterflies make their home in the trees and flowers that thrive in the fertile volcanic soil. When you reach on top of the mountain, enjoy a simple picnic lunch and breathe in the fresh air on the small pagoda. The mountain is topped with a caldera – a large crater that was left behind when the mouth of the volcano erupted. Relax here for a while and admire the breathtaking view of surrounding areas.
Make your way back down the mountain to your awaiting vehicle. There is the option to visit Popa Taung Kalat, a sheer-sided rocky outcrop. The sacred monastery perched on the peak is a famous pilgrimage site for locals who come to worship at the Nat temples.
