Foodies afoot in Can Tho
Spend an evening sampling Can Tho’s culinary delights and discover the food culture of the Mekong Delta.
Can Tho is the largest city in the Mekong Delta and is also known as the ‘rice basket’. Its fertile soil and vast network of waterways produce an impressive array of fresh vegetables, fruit and seafood.
Our tour takes us through the crowded streets and into the quieter back alleys to find the places that the locals go to eat. The city is full of street food stalls and roadside cafes where the vendors cook the food to order.
Meet your guide in Can Tho Market and together wander through the many stalls. Stop to sample flavourful sesame rice followed by a Banh Mi, the Vietnamese version of a French baguette. On a street corner watch a chef frying delicious crispy prawn cakes, and then try some of this delicious snack.
After a freshly squeezed sugar cane drink and duck eggs, continue to a hidden eatery to sample barbequed chicken, quail, seafood, and even snails! Wash this down with a glass of cold Vietnamese beer. Don’t forget to save some room for dessert – a local favourite called Sweet Soup Dessert.
End the evening at the Phat Hoc Pagoda, and then either walk or take a taxi back to your hotel.
