Bird Watching and Trekking at West Bali National Park

At the west end of the island you can find the unspoiled beauty of the Prapat Agung Peninsula in the West Bali National Park. This area consists of lush green forests, picturesque mountain ranges, pristine beach, and crystal clear blue water over an offshore coral reef. Home to one hundred and sixty species of birds, the national park is best known as the sanctuary of the exotic White Bali Starling, an endemic iconic bird of the Island of the Gods.

Travel to Brumbun Bay from where you will start your bird-watching adventure. Board a boat and cruise to a deserted coral beach, famous for its savannah and landscape. Put on your binoculars and walk to the ridge of a small hill to enjoy the view over Menjangan Island and the misty volcanoes of nearby East Java. Witness the early morning activity of the wildlife such as birds, deer, wild pigs and macaques.

Make your way through low bush forests, jungle forests and mangrove guided by a park guide who will explain about the varieties of birds, flora and fauna.

Keep a look out for the endangered Bali Starling, a beautiful white bird endemic to Bali. They can often be spotted in the low branches or foraging for food on the ground. Others species to be found in the park include the Javan Sparrow, Javan Banded Pitta and Beach Thick-knee.

End the trek at Shorea Beach, and board a boat to cross to the other side of the park. From here, take the vehicle back to the hotel.
