Alleppey Backwater Cruise

Tour Overview

In the morning set off by road to Allepey. On arrival at Vembanad Lake, board the traditional wooden houseboat. Find a comfy spot and sit back and relax.

Vembanad Lake is the largest wetland system in India and is fed by a vast network of canals. It is the heart of the Kerala backwaters. The lake itself is home to many species of wildlife and waterbirds, while along the shore the locals make a living from fishing, farming, tourism, coir production and lime shell collection.

Glide over the tranquil waters passing slow moving barges and small canoes. Keep your cameras ready to capture the lakeside scenes of lush paddy fields, ancient temples, village churches, and the day to day activities of the local people. Keep a look out for waterfowl, cuckoos and wild ducks.

While you cruise, tuck into a delicious lunch of traditional Keralan dishes served by the friendly crew.
In the afternoon disembark the boat for the drive back to Cochin.
