Lombok Villages & Waterfalls
Travel into the interior of the island where untouched villages, sacred springs and tumbling waterfalls await.
Description
In the morning depart from Sengiggi along a scenic road passing landscaped rice fields. Arrive at the traditional village of Karang Bayan. Visit some of the traditional houses and observe the daily life of the villagers. Watch as they weave elephant grass by hand into intricate boxes.
Continue to the water springs of Suranadi located by a protected forest, home to families of grey monkeys. Inside the temple complex are several sacred springs whose water comes from Mount Rinjani. Locals come here to pray and make a wish at the fountains.
After stopping at Sedau to take in the views, continue driving through remote villages. Keep an eye open for the local villagers collecting the dry branches from the surrounding forest.
The next stop is at a series of spectacular waterfalls. Set off on foot along scenic mountain trails to the first waterfall, Benang Kelambu. The name means the curtain of threads as the water resembles a net curtain as it flows down between thick moss and plants. From here walk a little further to Benang Stokel Waterfall, whose name means a roll of threads. The water tumbles for about 20 metres down a steep rock face into a beautiful clear pond. Cool off with a refreshing dip in the clean mountain water.
