Jewish Heritage of Mumbai by Walk

Tour Overview

Meet the guide for a brief orientation of India’s Jewish neighbourhood before starting the tour. Visit Sassoon Docks, one of the oldest docks in Mumbai, built by an influential family of Baghdadi Jews.

See the Gateway of India, the Fort Heritage District and the Kala Ghoda Art District. Here, visit the beautiful Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, with its elaborate interiors; and the David Sassoon Library, a protected monument. Continue to the towering Gothic-style Magen David Synagogue and then to Shaar Harahamim, the oldest synagogue in Mumbai. Also known as the Gate of Mercy Synagogue it was built in 1796 by Samaji Hasaji Divekar, a Bene Israeli.

The tour will also pass by many other significant buildings including Victoria Terminus. A stop will be made for lunch (at own expense).
