Fully immerse yourself in the local culture and lifestyle as you travel off the beaten track by car, boat, xe loi, bicycle and on foot.
Travel from Saigon by air-conditioned deluxe vehicle to Ben Tre. From there take a moped-drawn rickshaw, known locally as a xe loi, along the narrow pathways that lead through lush orchards, green rice paddies and local villages.
Stop at a coconut processing workshop where centuries-old traditional methods are still used to produce handmade bricks.
Hop on a bicycle for a gentle ride to Phong Nam village where you can see how noodles are made in a kwey teow factory. Then take a stroll to the home of a local family to sample tropical fruits and fresh honey tea. After relaxing for a while in their garden, board a wooden sampan and row to Mango Home restaurant for a cooking demonstration and lunch.
Then it’s back on the bicycle to visit the house of a veteran who survived two years fighting the Khmer Rouge in Phnom Penh. Chat with this extraordinary man, meet his family, and learn how they make rice paper. This is followed by a visit to another family who are experts in making the potent rice liquor.
